In 1967, the owner of Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club (and friend of The Beatles), Alf Geoghegan, wrote and recorded a song for his daughter, Debbie, for Christmas. For close to half a century that song has remained unheard outside of the immediate family.
Several years ago, Debbie and her husband Nigel met singer/songwriter, Michael Armstrong, and they have since become big fans of his music, even organising Michael’s debut album launch at The Cavern Club.
Last year, Debbie presented Michael with a copy of her father’s Christmas song, which Michael, along with Warren Bennett, subsequently updated and recorded.
In our final show for 2016, Michael joins us in the studio to talk about breathing new life into a dad’s very personal tribute to his little girl.
‘Little Girl (Bells of Christmas)’ is performed by Michael Armstrong and features Brian Bennett and Warren Bennett.
Released in association with The Cavern Club in Liverpool and the brand new book ‘Cavern Club: The Inside Story’, written by Debbie Greenberg, both to coincide with the venue’s 60th anniversary.
Listen here to our brand new, in-depth and fully illustrated interview with Debbie and her husband, Nigel – recorded in The Cavern Club itself – as we celebrate 60 years of The Mersey Beat.
